Part of the largest angling/fishing site in africa
Greetings fellow specimen anglers! I apologize for the delay in getting this section going so late in the year, my excuse is that I was hospitalized in February with concussion and was in even a bigger dwaal than usual for over a month. The good news is that the brain damage was diagnosed as only temporary and should subside some time in 2010 in time for the soccer world cup.
As most of us know pap-gooi will not be recognized for Protea colours in future and competitive anglers will have to move towards either pole angling or carp angling in order to be able to earn national colours. Central North West was the very first province in the country to compete in FIPS rules carp fishing and the RPA fielded two two-man teams who performed with distinction against the likes of Gilbert Foxcroft, Hennie du Preez and other top specimen anglers who will be representing South Africa in this years World Championships.
One of the aims of the RPA specimen section is to field teams to compete in both FIPS carp championships (target size 1,5kg) and in specimen carp competitions (target size 4,5kg). Among our members are experienced anglers who have performed extremely well in both disciplines over the last few years. Arthur Schroder and myself earned CNW colours in FIPS competition two years ago and Arthur Tee and Soutie Cloete have represented Central Gauteng at the SA’s for the last two years, Arthur as captain.
On the specimen side 6 RPA anglers finished in the top 8 in the Carp Society pro-series last year. Arthur Tee was one half (the important half) of the winning duo, Paul Ellis and Eric Fuhr came in second, Arthur Schroder and myself finished third and Stan Tabbakowitz was the important half of the 4th placed team after fishing the qualifying rounds as a one-man team.
Bearing this in mind the RPA specimen group are in a good position to prepare anglers of all degrees of ability to better themselves as anglers and to progress to the best of their ability. We have some excellent fishing waters at our disposal as was proved recently by Paul Ellis who on his 3rd visit to Last’s Farm banked one of the biggest carp to come out of the Vaal dam in a long time. The fish weighed a whopping 17kg! That’s a 38 pounder in the ou taal and Paul and the rest of our experienced members are more than willing to share their knowledge and expertise with all members.
We are planning a friendly get-together during the long weekend (end of April) at our waters at Lasts Farm and would greatly appreciate the presence of as many RPA members as possible.
For those of us who are not Tackle Tarts and are not in possession of pods, buzzer bars, danglers, swingers, monkey climbers, EBA’s, missiles, claw-busters or butt-rings etc your normal tackle will be fine.

Yours in Angling, Dave Favel.
