Subject: FW: UPDATE: VALS
Trevor
From and email I received yesterday regard the Vals
Gael
Seems that the raw sewerage released into river is still going on. According to town’s engineer, it’s an old pipe that was constructed deep under ground. They have requested special earth moving equipment, that was suppose to be there today. This brings the total amount of days since the spill probably started to a week. No info on places like wolwespruit downstream, as they fall under North West.
Water samples & dead fish report not in yet, send to a university for test. Also awaiting DWAF report by next week, Thursday, on their monitoring station situated at one of these weirs in the vals were first incident took place. Also no help given my local municipality or local PAO in opening the blocked low water bridge upstream from town( R722 turnoff on road between bothaville & welkom) near the Schuttersdraai silo’s. All I can do is maybe try finding ground owner and hear if we could remove it ourselves as it will be blocking spawning yellows from reaching spawning grounds . One department is moving the blame/work to the next one and just goes in full circle.

Kind Regards
