"The Feather Babes" Set Belfast Alight (joke)

Belfast Fly Fishing Association proudly hosted their 3rd Annual Ladies Fly Fishing Competition thanks to the on going support of the major sponsor Land Rover SA.
The invitation to fish was extended to all of the last two years entrants, BFFA lady members, other clubs lady members as well as a general invitation through the fishing magazines, information centres, tackle shops and the local press.
Even greater support than in the past was received from angling suppliers, accommodation providers, local business and the main sponsors Land Rover. An event of this nature can not be undertaken without all their support.
Registration took place on the Friday evening at the BFFA Club House where the entrants, their partners, the sponsors and the organisers were served mugs of hot, home made soup and rolls. This gave everyone an opportunity to meet one another and for the competitors to receive their goody bags holding Land Rover caps, fleecy boot liners, Hi-Tec hiking socks, fly packs and other goodies.

Saturday morning dawned cold but clear and at 6.00hrs everyone involved met at the Club House, gathered around the welcoming fires drinking hot coffee and tea with rusks, a good start to a perfect winters day. No one could have asked for a better.

Thirty eight competitors took part in the competition. Twenty one of the ladies also competed in the team event for which 6 teams entered. The entrants fished two dams with 14 on each dam in the morning and they switched dams for the afternoon session. This resulted in each competitor fishing from 8 different positions.
During the two sessions 23 fish were caught by 14 competitors. Three ladies caught their bag limit of three fish and there was only 10gms difference in weight between the winning bag and the second heaviest bag.
Brunch was served during the mid morning break and several sponsors exhibited their wares, there was a casting demonstration by Gary from Stealth as well as a fly tying demonstration by Peter Roberts..

The event was concluded with a Prize Giving Dinner attended by 100 competitors, guests, sponsors and officials. A great time was had by all. Both sponsors and competitors confirmed that they would be back next year and we hope that Land Rover will enter their own ladies team in 2006. Perhaps other sponsors would like to join them in this venture. It is mentioned that more than 15 entrants from last year who were unable to take part this year expressed their intention to enter the 2006 competition.
