CAPE COBRA – Kaapse kobra, Geelslang: (Naja nivea)

Length: 1.2 - 2.0m - Diurnal

The Cape cobra accounts for most snakebite fatalities in the Cape Province. Stands its ground and spreads an impressive hood when confronted.

Varies in colouration from black to brown, orange, yellow or mottled. Does not spit its venom and is an extremely dangerous cobra with a highly neurotoxic venom. If the aggressor remains motionless, the snake will soon drop to the ground and move off, only to snap back into its defensive pose if it detects movement.
